Chief Minister M.K. Stalin has announced an increase in the monthly pension for journalists and their family pension following representations made by members of the journalists’ association.
Representatives of the association met the Chief Minister at the Secretariat in Chennai and submitted a memorandum seeking enhancement of pension, medical insurance and housing facilities for journalists. Acting on the request, the Chief Minister ordered an increase in the monthly pension for journalists from Rs. 12,000 to Rs. 15,000. The family pension has also been raised from Rs. 6,000 to Rs. 7,500.
The Chief Minister also responded to the demand for housing or land for journalists residing in Chennai. He instructed the Tamil Nadu Housing Board to take steps to provide housing plots for journalists in Chengalpattu district. In addition, directions have been issued to form a Journalists Cooperative Housing Society to facilitate the process and implement the housing scheme, according to an official government press release.
