A senior police officer was arrested on charges of sexually harassing a woman constable at the Tamil Nadu 4th Battalion in Puthur, Coimbatore.
Police said Senthilkumar, who was serving as Commandant of the battalion in the rank of Superintendent of Police, had allegedly harassed women personnel working in the unit. Complaints were earlier lodged against him with higher authorities.
Following the complaints, Senthilkumar was placed under suspension last month while a departmental inquiry was initiated. Subsequently, the affected woman constable filed a complaint at the Coimbatore South All Women Police Station in Podanur. Based on the complaint, the police registered a case under several sections.
Acting on the case, the all-women police team arrested Senthilkumar. He was later produced before a court and remanded in judicial custody.Police officials said further investigation is under way. The arrest of a senior police officer on sexual harassment charges has created a stir in Coimbatore.
