Actor Vijay on Monday announced that his party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam, will contest the upcoming Assembly elections independently, putting an end to speculation over possible alliances.
The announcement was made during a meeting of party functionaries held in Pattinapakkam, Chennai, where Vijay urged cadres to intensify field work and expressed confidence of victory. He said the list of candidates would be released soon and that he would undertake a statewide campaign.
The decision follows weeks of political speculation over a possible alliance with major parties including the DMK and AIADMK. Vijay’s growing popularity had drawn attention from various fronts, with discussions reportedly held at different levels.
Following the announcement, party activities have intensified, with the headquarters in Panaiyur witnessing increased mobilisation of cadres.
Party sources indicated that Vijay is likely to contest from the Perambur constituency. Senior leader Aadhav Arjuna is expected to be fielded from Villivakkam, while party general secretary N. Anand, popularly known as Bussy Anand, may contest from T. Nagar.
With Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam deciding to go solo, the 2026 Assembly elections in Tamil Nadu are expected to witness a multi-cornered contest.
