Woman attempts to drive Govt bus causes panic in Pollachi

A woman created panic at the Pollachi bus stand in Coimbatore district after attempting to drive a government bus, triggering commotion among passengers.
The incident occurred at the new bus stand functioning opposite the Sub-Collector’s office in Pollachi, from where buses operate to destinations including Kerala, Valparai and Anaimalai. Special buses are currently being operated to the Masani Amman Temple in Anaimalai due to the Amavasya occasion.
Police said the woman had earlier created a disturbance on the previous night by pelting stones at a special bus bound for Anaimalai, damaging its window. On inquiry, she was found to be mentally disturbed and was sent away from the bus stand.
On Friday morning, when a large number of passengers, including students, workers and devotees, were waiting at the bus stand, the woman boarded a stationary government bus. She then entered the driver’s seat and attempted to operate the vehicle. Alert conductors prevented the bus from moving by placing stones under the tyres.
The situation escalated as the woman repeatedly sounded the horn, causing panic among passengers. She was eventually removed from the bus, but continued to create a scene by lying under the vehicle. Police were called to the spot, following which she was rescued and taken in an ambulance to the Coimbatore Government Hospital for treatment.
The incident caused a stir in the busy Pollachi bus stand area.
