Tens of thousands of Muslims gathered at the Eidgah Ground on Ooty Road in Mettupalayam to offer special prayers on the occasion of Ramadan on Friday.
Wearing new clothes, devotees from 37 mosques across the town proceeded in groups to the prayer venue and participated in the mass prayer.
The special prayers were led by Chief Imam of the Grand Mosque, Haji Kalibullah Fazil Bhakvi. Earlier, Haji Abdul Hameed delivered a special sermon highlighting the significance of Ramadan. After the prayers, people greeted each other warmly and exchanged festive
wishes.
More than 10,000 people took part in the congregation. Security arrangements were made under the supervision of Mettupalayam DSP Bhaskar, with Police Inspector Manikandan and personnel ensuring smooth conduct of the event.
