A garbage-laden lorry overturned near Kangeyampalayam in Sulur, causing severe inconvenience to residents and motorists due to the foul smell from waste scattered on the road.
The vehicle was transporting garbage from the Vellalur dump yard to a cement factory when the accident occurred. Police said the driver lost control while attempting to overtake another vehicle, leading to the lorry toppling onto the roadside.
All occupants escaped without injuries.
Though chemicals had been sprayed earlier to control odour, the overturn resulted in garbage spilling across the area, leading to a strong stench and public discomfort.
Residents have urged authorities to immediately clear the waste and carry out sanitation measures. Police have registered a case and are investigating.
