Former Tamil Nadu Congress Committee General Secretary T. Selvam, who was recently removed from the party, joined Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam in the presence of party leader Vijay.
Selvam was expelled from the Congress by State President K. Selvaperunthagai following reports that he was planning to join Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam. Soon after his removal, he formally joined the party on Thursday, along with several Congress functionaries who extended their support to him.
Addressing the gathering, Selvam alleged that the Congress leadership was attempting to form alliances for vested interests while compromising party principles. He claimed that a majority of party workers were opposed to continuing an alliance with the DMK.
The development comes amid evolving political alignments in Tamil Nadu ahead of the 2026 Assembly elections.
