Grand Graduation milestone at Avinashilingam Institute Convocation

The 37th Convocation of Avinashilingam Institute for Home Science and Higher Education for Women was held on March 27 at 11 a.m. at the T. S. Avinashilingam Open Stage, celebrating the academic accomplishments of students.
Chancellor and Managing Trustee of Avinashilingam Education Trust Institutions T. S. K. Meenakshisundaram presided over the ceremony and conferred degrees on the graduates. Vice Chancellor V. Bharathi Harishankar presented the institution’s achievements for the academic year 2025–2026, highlighting progress in academics, research and student development.
She said the institute undertook 22 funded research projects backed by national and international agencies, secured seven patents and ten copyrights, and signed 26 memoranda of understanding.


The institution also adopted 26 villages and achieved strong placement results, with over 1,000 students placed through campus drives conducted by 78 companies.
Emphasising holistic education, she noted that academic learning combined with participation in NCC, NSS, sports and skill development initiatives had shaped students’ overall growth. She urged graduates to remain value-driven and contribute meaningfully to society.
Padma Shri awardee V. Kamakoti, Director of IIT Madras, delivered the convocation address and distributed medals to rank holders. He stressed the importance of education in national development, referring to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, particularly quality education. He called on youth to contribute to nation-building through self-reliance, commitment to their fields and promotion of indigenous products.
Highlighting India’s indigenous achievements during the COVID-19 pandemic, he underlined the need to reduce dependency and uphold humanitarian values. He also encouraged graduates to support higher education for underprivileged students and expand access in rural areas.


A total of 2,328 students received degrees, including 1,682 undergraduates, 532 postgraduates, six postgraduate diploma holders, one diploma holder and 107 doctoral scholars. Academic excellence was recognised with 94 medals awarded to meritorious students.
Graduates from various schools, including Arts and Social Sciences, Home Science, Physical and Computational Sciences, Commerce and Management, Education, Biosciences, Engineering and Allied Health Sciences, were honoured.
Registrar H. Indu, along with members of the executive and academic councils, faculty, administrative officials, students, parents and special invitees, attended the ceremony.
