District Election Officer and District Collector Pawankumar K. Kiriyappanavar led an intensive voter awareness campaign in Kopanari village under the Mettupalayam Assembly constituency, urging tribal residents to ensure 100 per cent polling in the April 23 Assembly elections.
In a unique outreach effort held on March 31, Pawankumar K. Kiriyappanavar interacted with tribal communities and even joined them in a traditional dance to spread awareness on the importance of voting. The initiative drew enthusiastic participation from local residents.
Additional Collector (Development) Sangeth Balwant Wage, Returning Officer Viswanathan, Karamadai Block Development Officer Suba, women self-help group members and tribal villagers took part in the programme.
The campaign featured a voter awareness pledge, a signature drive promoting 100 per cent voting, exhibitions of awareness-themed drawings by self-help groups and a selfie point highlighting the importance of electoral participation.
Addressing the gathering, Pawankumar K. Kiriyappanavar said that various initiatives are being carried out across Coimbatore district as per Election Commission of India guidelines. These include two-wheeler rallies, cultural programmes, short film screenings through mobile video units and competitions to engage voters.
Special awareness activities were organised in Kopanari tribal village of Tholampalayam panchayat under the “My Vote, My Right” campaign. Emphasising the role of women, the Collector called on self-help groups to lead awareness efforts and encourage families and communities to vote.
Stressing that every vote is valuable, he urged all eligible voters to cast their ballots on April 23.
