Three arrested for brewing liquor using YouTube near Pollachi

Three persons were arrested by the Prohibition Enforcement Wing police for allegedly brewing illicit liquor after learning the method through YouTube, near Pollachi.
Police teams led by Prohibition Deputy Superintendent Thangam have been intensifying surveillance against illegal liquor sale and brewing activities in Anaimalai, Pollachi and adjoining border areas along Tamil Nadu and Kerala.
Based on a tip-off received by Prohibition Inspector Palaniammal, special teams conducted searches in private farm lands in Devambadi, Valasu and Chellandipalayam areas under Vadakkipalayam.
During the operation, it was found that illicit liquor was being brewed and stored in a milk can in a garden. Following this, Arun Prasad (39), Andiyappan (25) and Muthukumar (44) were arrested.
Inquiry revealed that the accused had attempted to brew liquor by watching videos on YouTube through their mobile phones, police said.
The Prohibition Enforcement Wing seized the materials used for brewing and produced the accused before a court, following which they were remanded to the Pollachi sub-jail.
The incident has drawn attention in the region due to the unusual use of online platforms to learn illegal brewing methods.
