A 56-year-old man was shot dead by his son-in-law following a domestic dispute at Devalapuram near Ambur in Tirupattur district, triggering panic in the locality.
Police said the deceased, Ravi, was at his house when his son-in-law Satish Kumar, 33, allegedly opened fire at him using a country-made gun on Friday night. The bullet struck Ravi in the chest.
Satish Kumar, a labourer, had frequent disputes with his wife Krithika, Ravi’s daughter, who had reportedly returned to her parental home following ongoing quarrels. On the day of the incident, another argument broke out between the couple.
Enraged during the altercation, Satish Kumar allegedly took out a concealed firearm and shot Ravi before fleeing the scene.
Neighbours rushed the Wounded Ravi to the Government Hospital in Ambur in a 108 ambulance, but doctors declared him dead on arrival.
Tirupattur Superintendent of Police Syamala Devi inspected the spot. Umrabad police have registered a case and launched a search to nab the accused.
