A shortage of commercial LPG cylinders has led to the closure of several hotels in Mamallapuram, forcing tourists to make alternative arrangements, including carrying gas cylinders to cook their own food.
With many eateries remaining shut and others offering limited menus at higher prices, visitors have been finding it difficult to access regular meals despite increased spending.
In response, tourists arriving by cars and buses from various parts of Tamil Nadu and other States have begun bringing domestic gas cylinders along with cooking essentials. After visiting tourist spots, many are seen parking their vehicles in open spaces and preparing food themselves.
Tourists said their trips had been planned in advance, but hotels informed them of their inability to provide food due to the shortage of commercial cylinders. They added that similar conditions prevail in their hometowns, prompting them to carry cylinders and cook during their stay.
The situation has been reported over the past few days, highlighting the wider impact of supply disruptions on the hospitality sector in the coastal tourist destination.
