Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam leader Vijay’s scheduled election campaign in Cuddalore district was abruptly cancelled today, party sources said.
The party is contesting the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections independently, and Vijay has been touring across the State seeking support for candidates contesting under the party’s whistle symbol. He had campaigned in Tirunelveli and Thoothukudi districts on Thursday.
Vijay was slated to campaign in support of party candidates in nine constituencies across four locations in Cuddalore district, including Cuddalore, Vadalur, Sethiyathope and Ramanathapuram. Police had granted permission for the events with 21 conditions, and arrangements were in place for his roadshow from Puducherry.
However, the campaign was called off at the last minute as polling was underway in neighbouring Puducherry. Party functionaries said the decision was taken to avoid any potential impact on the electoral process.
The party has indicated that efforts are being made to reschedule the campaign on April 11.
