Intrcity Launches Air Purified Bus Service

IntrCity SmartBus has launched the country’s first air-purified intercity bus service, branded as “SmartBus.AQI”, on the Coimbatore–Chennai corridor, aiming to enhance passenger health and travel comfort.
The company said the initiative addresses the often-overlooked issue of air quality inside bus cabins. Internal studies indicated that in-cabin air pollution on intercity routes can be two to three times higher than the limits recommended by the World Health Organization.
According to IntrCity, the new service maintains PM2.5 levels at around 40 micrograms per cubic metre for over 90 per cent of the journey, significantly lower than typical outdoor air levels in major cities.
Passengers can identify these buses through the “SmartBus.AQI” tag while booking via the IntrCity app or website. Real-time air quality data, including AQI and PM2.5 levels, will also be displayed onboard and on the app for transparency.
Manish Rathi, Co-founder and CEO of IntrCity SmartBus, said Coimbatore remains a key intercity travel hub with strong demand for routes such as Coimbatore–Chennai, and the new service aims to provide safer and cleaner travel.
IntrCity operates across more than 630 routes nationwide and is supported by its digital platform RailYatri, which offers travel services and information to millions of users.
