Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi briefly interacted during a function held in the Parliament complex to mark the 200th birth anniversary of social reformer Mahatma Jyotiba Phule.
The event, organised by the Central Government, was attended by President Droupadi Murmu, Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, Union ministers and other dignitaries.
Leaders paid floral tributes to the statue of Jyotiba Phule within the Parliament premises as part of the commemorative programme.
Prime Minister Modi and Rahul Gandhi were seen engaging in a brief and cordial conversation upon arrival at the venue. The interaction drew attention, especially in the backdrop of ongoing political differences between the two leaders.
Rahul Gandhi also interacted with Union Minister J.P. Nadda and Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla during the event.
The brief exchange between the Prime Minister and the Opposition leader has since gained traction on social media.
