Father held for keeping daughter’s body at home

A shocking incident has come to light in Uttar Pradesh’s Meerut, where a 76-year-old man allegedly kept the decomposed body of his daughter inside their house for nearly five months.
The deceased has been identified as Priyanka Biswas, a school teacher, and the accused as Bhanu Biswas. According to police sources, the duo had been living in isolation after the death of Sharmishta Biswas in 2023.
The incident surfaced when relatives visited the house last Friday and noticed a strong foul smell. Upon searching the premises, they found Priyanka’s skeletal remains in a room and immediately alerted the police.
Preliminary investigations revealed that Bhanu Biswas had been spraying perfume regularly to mask the odour, which delayed suspicion for months.
Police have taken Bhanu Biswas into custody and are probing the circumstances surrounding the death. Officials said it is yet to be determined whether Priyanka died due to illness or died by suicide, with clarity expected after the post-mortem examination.
Authorities are also examining the mental condition of the accused as part of the ongoing investigation.
