Four members of a family died under suspected food poisoning circumstances in the JJ Marg area of south Mumbai, triggering concern among residents.
According to police, Abdullah, 40, his wife Nasreen, 35, and their daughters Zainab, 13, and Ayesha, 16, had hosted a family meal at their residence on April 25. The family, along with five guests, consumed chicken pulao during lunch.
After the guests left, the family reportedly ate watermelon. Soon after, all four developed symptoms such as vomiting and dizziness, and their condition deteriorated rapidly.
They were initially admitted to a private hospital and later shifted to Sir J. J. Hospital as their health worsened. Despite treatment, all four succumbed, with Abdullah passing away last.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the watermelon may have caused the food poisoning, as the guests who consumed only the pulao were unaffected. However, officials stated that the exact cause of death will be confirmed only after the post-mortem report.
Police have registered a case of accidental death and initiated a detailed investigation into the incident.
