Hotel tariffs set to rise after cylinder price hike

Hotel tariffs across Tamil Nadu are set to increase from May 5 following a sharp rise in the price of commercial LPG cylinders, according to the Tamil Nadu Hotel Owners Association.
The price of commercial cylinders was hiked by Rs. 993 on May 1, taking the cost up to Rs. 3,237.
The steep increase, attributed to rising global oil prices, is expected to impact the hospitality sector and push up food and accommodation costs.
The association said the increase in input costs has made it inevitable to revise room tariffs.
As per the revised rates, non-AC rooms for four persons are expected to be priced between Rs. 6,500 and Rs. 7,500.
Rooms for three persons may cost between Rs. 7,000 and Rs. 8,000, while double occupancy rooms are likely to be priced between Rs. 8,000 and Rs. 9,000.
The association also indicated that tariffs could vary further depending on additional facilities provided in air-conditioned rooms and hostel accommodations.
The hike is expected to affect travellers, including students and professionals from Tamil Nadu staying outside their hometowns, as accommodation expenses are likely to rise significantly.
