Sisters from Kerala found dead in Kanyakumari

Two sisters from Kerala were found dead in the sea at Vavathurai in Kanyakumari, with investigations indicating that they died by suicide. A purported email sent by them to their elder sister before their death has revealed their final wishes.
The deceased have been identified as Anne Philip, 35, an X-ray technician, and Meera Philip, 32, an engineer. They are daughters of Philip from Kidangur near Kurigad in Kottayam district of Kerala. Their elder sister, Elizabeth Philip, is married and resides in London.
Police said Anne Philip and Meera Philip had been working in the United States and recently returned to their hometown in Kerala. They later visited Rameswaram and Madurai before arriving in Kanyakumari on April 26. The sisters checked into a private hotel.
After they failed to return to the hotel for three days, the staff grew suspicious and alerted their mother Mary over phone. Following this, their father’s brother Sishu and other relatives rushed to Kanyakumari and began searching for them. A complaint was also lodged with the Kanyakumari police.
Their bodies were recovered from the Vavathurai sea inlet by the Marine Police. Preliminary investigation suggested that the sisters had jumped into the sea.
During the inquiry, police found that before leaving the United States, the sisters had sent an email to Elizabeth Philip stating that they were returning home with a heavy heart and should not be contacted. In the message, they reportedly requested their sister to come to Kanyakumari after their death, perform their last rites and immerse their ashes in the sea.
The bodies were handed over to the family after post-mortem examination. Police are continuing further investigation into the incident.
