A Puducherry court has directed Tamil Nadu Finance Minister Marie Wilson to appear in person on July 10 in connection with a criminal case relating to an alleged assault on his younger brother over a property dispute.
According to the prosecution, the incident occurred on August 8, 2022, at Ezhil Nagar in Puducherry, where Marie Wilson and his father allegedly entered the residence of his brother, Marie Guloth, and assaulted him and his wife, Caroline, following a dispute over family property. Based on a complaint lodged at the Lawspet Police Station, a case was registered under various sections, including criminal trespass, assault, causing damage, criminal intimidation and conspiracy.
The case is pending before the First Judicial Magistrate Court in Puducherry. Although several opportunities had been granted earlier, the Minister had not appeared before the court.
When the matter came up on Saturday for receiving the charge sheet, Marie Wilson was absent again. His counsel submitted that the Minister could not appear due to budget-related official work in Tamil Nadu.
However, Judicial Magistrate Cheralathan observed that the hearing had been scheduled on a holiday to facilitate his appearance. On the request of the defence for additional time, the court directed Marie Wilson to appear compulsorily on July 10.
