District Collector Pavankumar G. Giriyappanavar inaugurated the third edition of Young Indians Parliament (Yi Parliament 3.0), a two-day parliamentary simulation programme, at the Kumaraguru campus in Coimbatore on Friday.
The event, organised jointly by the Kumaraguru Centre for Public and Competitive Careers (KCPC), the Department of Political Science of Kumaraguru College of Liberal Arts and Science (KCLAS) and the Young Indians (Yi) Coimbatore Chapter, has brought together 109 student delegates from 14 schools to gain hands-on experience in parliamentary proceedings, including legislative debates, policy discussions, Question Hour and law-making procedures.
Addressing the participants, the Collector described the legislature as the cornerstone of India’s constitutional democracy and urged students to cultivate active listening, empathy, patience and mutual respect to become responsible future leaders. He said Parliament represents the voice of the people and stressed the importance of understanding diverse perspectives and engaging in constructive dialogue.
Emphasising India’s cultural and regional diversity, Pavankumar G. Giriyappanavar encouraged students to appreciate different viewpoints while nurturing a spirit of public service. He also commended the organisers for providing a platform that promotes democratic values through experiential learning.
Welcoming the participants, Young Indians Coimbatore Chapter Chair Rahul Kamath said today’s youth have significant influence through digital and social media and should use it responsibly. He urged students to value truth, informed opinions and meaningful discussions, adding that leadership is defined by wisdom, integrity and service to society.
The top 15 delegates from the Coimbatore Chapter will qualify for the Regional Round, with an opportunity to compete in the National Finals to be held in New Delhi. The valedictory function will be attended by Coimbatore Member of Parliament Dr. Ganapathy Rajkumar.
