A 45-year-old lorry driver allegedly electrocuted his two children to death before dying by suicide at Sirupadu Saveriarpuram near Pudukottai in Thoothukudi district. Police have launched an investigation into the incident.
The deceased was identified as Mariya Michael. Police said he had been living with his father and his two children after his wife, Sabitha Ronikam, reportedly left the family around six months ago due to domestic issues. Their daughter, Mariya Nirosha (14), was studying in Class IX, while their son, Mariya Keniston (12), was a Class VII student. According to the preliminary investigation, Mariya Michael allegedly tied electric wires to the hands and legs of the children while they were asleep and passed electric current through them, resulting in their deaths. He is then suspected to have ended his own life by electrocuting himself.
On receiving information, Pudukottai police broke open the locked house and recovered the bodies. A case has been registered, and further investigation is underway to ascertain the circumstances leading to the tragedy. The incident has shocked residents of the locality.
