Rao Hospital, a women and children’s hospital in R.S. Puram, organised its “Breastfeeding & Beyond” awareness programme to educate expectant mothers, new mothers and their families on breastfeeding, newborn nutrition and infant feeding practices.
The programme was conducted in association with FICCI FLO Coimbatore, Rotary Club of Coimbatore Aakruthi and Inner Wheel Club of Coimbatore.
Senior Neonatologist and Paediatrician Dr. K.S. Krishnasamy highlighted that breastfeeding is the gold standard of infant nutrition, playing a crucial role in strengthening a baby’s immunity while supporting healthy growth and brain development. Referring to the recommendations of the World Health Organization (WHO) and UNICEF, he said mothers should exclusively breastfeed for the first six months and continue breastfeeding along with appropriate complementary foods until two years of age or beyond.
Lactation Consultant and Child Nutrition Expert Baby Shree conducted an interactive session on breastfeeding techniques, covering proper latch, feeding positions, milk supply, common breastfeeding challenges and the timely introduction of complementary foods while continuing breastfeeding.
Senior Consultant, Fertility and Obstetrics & Gynaecology, Dr. B. Suganya Kathir delivered a session on postnatal HPV vaccination, highlighting its role in preventing cervical cancer.
The programme concluded with an interactive discussion, where mothers received practical guidance, expert advice and gift hampers, reinforcing Rao Hospital’s commitment to promoting maternal and child health through education and awareness.
