Tirunelveli halwa price rises to Rs.340

The price of the famous Tirunelveli halwa has been increased following a sharp rise in sugar prices. A prominent sweet shop in Tirunelveli Junction has increased the price of halwa from Rs.320 to Rs.340 a kg.
Sugar is an essential ingredient in preparing halwa and other sweets. The price of sugar, which was around Rs.50 a kg last month, has gradually increased to Rs.75, according to
traders.

Following the rise in sugar prices, the prices of several sweets and savouries have also been increased. Mixture and karasev are now being sold at Rs.340 a kg after a Rs.20 increase. The price of chips has risen by Rs.20 to Rs.380 a kg. Palkova and milk halwa are being sold at Rs.500 a kg, while special Mysore pak is priced at Rs.540 a kg.
Another prominent shop in Tirunelveli Junction is already selling halwa at Rs.340 a kg. Halwa at Iruttukadai on Keezha Ratha Veethi in Tirunelveli Town is priced at Rs.440 a kg, while shops on Keezha Ratha Veethi and two shops at Kallathi Mudukku are selling it at Rs.360 a kg.Shop owners said they are considering increasing the price by up to Rs.40 a kg. An announcement on the revised prices is expected within a day or
two.
