Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay on Thursday inaugurated, through video conference from the Secretariat, newly constructed buildings for the Police Department and Fire and Rescue Services Department at a total cost of Rs.164.64 crore.
The Police Department buildings were constructed at a cost of Rs.127.76 crore, while the Fire and Rescue Services Department buildings were constructed at a cost of Rs.36.88 crore.
The newly inaugurated police buildings include 400 police personnel and head constable quarters at Perumbakkam in Chengalpattu district, constructed at a cost of Rs.121.85 crore. A police station at the Harbour area in Chennai was constructed at a cost of Rs.2.91 crore.
Two police cooperative supermarkets, each constructed at a cost of Rs.1 crore, were also inaugurated at the Tamil Nadu Special Police 5th Battalion campus in Avadi and the Armed Reserve campus at St. Thomas Mount. Another police cooperative supermarket constructed at a cost of Rs.1 crore was inaugurated at the Armed Reserve campus in Kancheepuram.
Under the Fire and Rescue Services Department, seven new fire and rescue stations have been constructed at various locations. These include Sevapet in Salem district at a cost of Rs.5.08 crore, Samayapuram in Tiruchirappalli district at Rs.3.91 crore, Veppadai in Namakkal district at Rs.2.48 crore, Perambalur at Rs.4.33 crore, T. Kallupatti in Madurai district at Rs.2.38 crore, Vadipatti at Rs.2.21 crore and Singampunari in Sivaganga district at Rs.2.46 crore.
In addition, 15 residential quarters for Fire and Rescue Services personnel were constructed at Peelamedu in Coimbatore district at a cost of Rs.6.33 crore, while 14 quarters were constructed at Tiruchengode in Namakkal district at Rs.4.34 crore. A barracks building for the department was also constructed at Mettupalayam in Coimbatore district at a cost of Rs.2.36 crore.
The government has been implementing various schemes to strengthen the infrastructure of the Police Department and Fire and Rescue Services Department, with the objective of improving their operational efficiency and ensuring better public service.
Chief Secretary Dr. M. Saikumar, Additional Chief Secretary of the Prohibition and Excise Department Dr. K. Manivasan, Director General of Police Mahesh Kumar Aggarwal, Director of Fire and Rescue Services G. Venkataraman, Tamil Nadu Police Housing Corporation Chairman and Managing Director Vinit Dev Wankhede and Chennai Police Commissioner Dr. A. Amalraj were among those who participated in the event.
