Students should move beyond seeking employment and strive to become job creators and responsible citizens, K. Annamalai, former IPS officer and Chief Servant, We The Leaders Foundation, said while addressing the Student Association Inauguration Ceremony for 2026-27 at Kongunadu Arts and Science College (Autonomous), Coimbatore, on Thursday.
The programme, held at the Smt. Dhanalakshmi Aruchami Multipurpose Hall, brought together students, faculty members and dignitaries. The newly elected student office-bearers were introduced and presented with badges, marking the beginning of their tenure.
Addressing the students, Annamalai highlighted the employment challenges facing young people and urged them to explore entrepreneurship and innovation instead of limiting themselves to job-seeking. He stressed the importance of developing leadership, teamwork and a spirit of service.
He also drew attention to women’s empowerment and violence against women, calling upon students to respect personal boundaries and maintain responsible relationships based on dignity, ethics and mutual respect.
Emphasising responsible use of social media, Annamalai advised students to exercise caution on digital platforms and avoid activities that could affect their future. He urged them to uphold moral values and contribute positively to society.
He further called for greater youth participation in environmental conservation through tree-planting initiatives and protection of rivers and lakes. He also cautioned students against drug addiction and other harmful habits and urged them to lead disciplined and healthy lives.
The function was presided over by Dr. V. Sangeetha, Principal, Kongunadu Arts and Science College. Dr. C. A. Vasuki, Secretary and Director, encouraged the students to take up leadership responsibilities with commitment and social concern.
