A 32-year-old man was allegedly beaten to death by his mother following a quarrel at their house in the Varichiyur Mettupatti area of Madurai district.
The deceased was identified as Raja. His mother, Aiyammal, reportedly told the Village Administrative Officer that she killed her son after he allegedly returned home intoxicated, demanded money and harassed her.
According to the report, the incident took place about three months ago. Aiyammal allegedly pushed Raja to the ground and hit him on the head with an iron rod lying nearby. He died at the spot.
She allegedly placed Raja’s body in a pit dug near the house for a toilet and buried it. She also reportedly cleaned the blood stains inside the house.
Aiyammal had allegedly claimed that her son had been missing for several months. Following police surveillance and suspicion among villagers, she reportedly surrendered before the Village Administrative Officer on Wednesday and confessed to the killing.
Raja’s wife and children had reportedly separated from him due to his alleged alcohol and drug addiction. Several criminal cases were also pending against him.
