Elephant struggles for an hour to pluck jackfruit from tree near Valparai

The movement of wild elephants has increased in recent days in the Chinnakkallar, Periyakallar and Shingona estate areas near Valparai in Coimbatore district.

A male wild elephant entered a residential area on the route to Chinnakkallar Falls around noon and spotted a jackfruit tree. It attempted to pluck a fruit from the tree but initially appeared unsure how to reach it and spent some time moving around the tree.

The elephant then pushed and shook the tree with its head, apparently hoping that a jackfruit would fall. However, the fruit remained on the tree.

The elephant eventually raised its front legs against the tree and stretched its trunk to reach and pluck the jackfruit. It then ate the fruit and continued feeding.

The entire effort reportedly lasted nearly an hour. Garden workers, forest personnel on security duty and police personnel in the area watched the elephant’s attempts.
