Bathing has been banned at the Coimbatore Courtallam waterfall following a fresh rise in water flow caused by continuous rainfall in the Western Ghats.
The waterfall is located in the Boluvampatti forest range at the foothills of the Western Ghats in Coimbatore district. It is one of the major tourist attractions in the district and attracts a large number of visitors from Coimbatore and other parts of the State.
Tourists are normally allowed to visit the waterfall on six days a week, except Monday. However, continuous rainfall in the Western Ghats over the past few days has led to a sharp increase in water flow at the waterfall.
As a result, the waterfall has witnessed a heavy flow, prompting the Forest Department to ban tourists from bathing there on Saturday as a safety precaution.
The waterfall was reopened only on Friday after remaining closed for three days. However, with the water flow increasing again, the waterfall has been closed from Saturday.
The Forest Department said the waterfall would remain closed until the water flow returns to normal, keeping the safety of tourists in mind.
