A district-level training programme under the Namma School, Namma Ooru Palli–Kanniya Girls Education Scheme was inaugurated by Tiruvannamalai Collector Vandana Garg on Thursday to support the education, skills and future development of girl students.
The programme, organised by the School Education Department and Kalike, will expand to 35 government girls’ higher secondary and high schools across the district during 2026-27.
Launched in Tiruvannamalai in 2024-25, the initiative has so far reached 5,717 students through educational support, STEM education, life skills and career guidance.
Speaking at the programme, Vandana Garg stressed the need to prevent child marriage, reduce school dropouts and improve access to higher education for girls. She urged parents and teachers to create better opportunities for girls and spread awareness about the importance of education.
The Collector also called for awareness on anaemia, safety and other issues affecting girls. She said the programme would help students develop skills to make informed decisions about education, careers and their future.
District Chief Educational Officer Muniraj, representatives of Titan’s social impact division, programme officials, NGO representatives, coordinators, headmistresses, teachers and officials participated.
