The Madras High Court on Monday reserved its verdict on a petition filed by DMK president M. K. Stalin challenging the election victory of TVK candidate V. S. Babu in the Kolathur Assembly constituency.
V. S. Babu was declared elected from Kolathur in the recent Tamil Nadu Assembly election, while M. K. Stalin finished second. Following Stalin’s application, 14 voting machines and VVPAT machines used in the constituency were verified.
Alleging irregularities during the election process, Stalin approached the Madras High Court seeking verification of all voting machines and VVPAT units in the constituency.
He also sought an order declaring Babu’s election invalid and requested that he be declared the elected candidate.
Senior counsel J. Ravindran had sought an urgent hearing of the case before a Bench comprising Chief Justice Sushrut Arvind Dharmadhikari and Justice Arul Murugan last week. The Bench had indicated that the matter would be taken up on Monday or Tuesday.
The High Court heard the matter on Monday and reserved its verdict.
