Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay, who opened the Mettur Dam for irrigation and drinking water needs, inspected the Mettur Hydroelectric Power Station on Tuesday.
Vijay arrived at Salem airport from Chennai by a special flight and was received by officials and party functionaries. He subsequently travelled by road from Kamalapuram to Mettur, where people and party workers gathered along the route to welcome him.
On reaching the Mettur Dam, Vijay was accorded a special police parade. He then opened the sluice gates to release water from the dam for irrigation in the Cauvery delta districts.
After the water was released, Vijay welcomed the Cauvery water by showering flowers. He also interacted with representatives of farmers and posed for photographs with journalists.
The Chief Minister later viewed historical photographs related to the Mettur Dam before proceeding to the Mettur Hydroelectric Power Station.
Officials explained to Vijay the various works being carried out at the power station. He also interacted with the employees and posed for photographs with them.
