Digital driving licences and vehicle registration certificates will be made available online across Tamil Nadu from September 15, Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay announced in the Assembly.
Making announcements under Rule 110 on services of the Transport Department, Vijay said vehicle owners would be able to download digital registration certificates online after registering their new vehicles.
Applicants who pass the driving test will also be issued a digital driving licence on the same day, he said.
Vijay said the digital system would enable government offices to verify documents online, helping prevent the use of fake documents. If a document is lost, it can also be downloaded again through the online system.
He further announced that facilities would gradually be introduced to enable applicants to apply for and obtain driving licences through any Regional Transport Office in Tamil Nadu.
