Energy Minister C. T. R. Nirmal Kumar said six new substations would be established in Chennai and steps would be taken to address low-voltage and frequent power-cut issues.
Responding to MLAs during Question Hour in the Tamil Nadu Assembly, Nirmal Kumar said complaints regarding low voltage would be examined and necessary action taken. He also said steps had been initiated to raise electrical boxes that were installed at low levels in Chennai.
MLA Chellasamy sought a new substation and raised the issue of electricity facilities in hill villages in the Padmanabhapuram constituency. Responding to the demands, the Minister said the issues would be examined and necessary action taken.
MLA Marimuthu sought a 110-KV substation in Tiruvarur district. The Minister said work was under way on six new substations in Madurai.
Nirmal Kumar said 6,000 transformers would be replaced during the current year and measures were being taken to restore power supply within 15 minutes during outages.
MLA Poondi Kalaivanan alleged that the Koradachery area was facing power cuts up to 10 times a day. The Minister said steps were being taken to resolve the issue and assured that the problem would be rectified within six months.
