Stray dogs reportedly helped prevent an alleged sexual assault on a mentally ill woman near a railway overbridge in Coimbatore, with police arresting a minor boy in connection with the incident.
According to police, the woman was sitting by the roadside near two stray dogs along the service road of the railway overbridge in the early hours when the boy, allegedly under the influence of alcohol, approached her.
CCTV footage reportedly showed the boy speaking to the woman before picking up a stone and attempting to chase away the dogs. However, the dogs remained nearby and continued barking.
When the dogs moved away, the boy allegedly attempted to sexually assault the woman. The woman raised an alarm, following which the two stray dogs reportedly pounced on the boy, bit his legs and pulled him away.
The boy then fled the spot, with one of the dogs reportedly chasing him for some distance, police said.
Based on the CCTV footage, police identified the boy and arrested him later on Thursday. Further investigation is underway.
