Tamil Nadu Agriculture Minister Vinoth said the Secretariat would announce whether Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay would participate in the opening of water from the Kallanai for delta irrigation.
The Minister today inaugurated the removal of Neyveli kattamanakku plants and korai grass from the Cauvery river near Kumbakonam. The work is being carried out for about three kilometres from Keela Kottaiyur.
Asked whether the Chief Minister would attend the Kallanai water-release programme, Vinoth said the Secretariat would announce the details.
He also said canals in Kumbakonam city would be desilted. Work to prevent sewage from entering the canals would begin soon, followed by desilting operations.
Water released from Mettur Dam is expected to reach Kallanai by tomorrow night. Water is expected to be released from Kallanai for delta irrigation on September 6.
The Chief Minister had already opened the Mettur Dam sluices on September 1 for Cauvery delta irrigation.
