The all-India bank strike was total in Erode district today, with more than 4,000 bank employees from around 400 branches participating in the strike.
Addressing a demonstration organised by the United Forum of Bank Unions in Erode, district president Ganesh said that the unions had been demanding a five-day working week for the past 10 years.
The demand was also accepted by the government as part of the 2024 wage settlement, he said.
“Previously, both officers and staff were provided uniform incentives, but discrimination is now being shown against the staff.
Despite the demand being accepted, the Union Finance Ministry has not taken any action so far,” he said.
He added that the all-India strike was organised to highlight these demands.
“If the demands are not fulfilled, bank employees will go on a three-day strike from September 28 and launch an indefinite strike from October 26 across the country,” he said.
