Delhi High court issues contempt notice to ilaiyaraaja

Saregama India Limited has approached the Delhi High Court seeking contempt proceedings against music composer Ilaiyaraaja, alleging that he continued to claim rights over and commercially exploit songs covered by an earlier court order.
The company has alleged that it holds rights over the music and sound recordings of films released between 1976 and 2001 under agreements entered into with various producers.
The Delhi High Court had earlier restrained Ilaiyaraaja from commercially exploiting songs from films over which Saregama holds copyright and from granting copyright licences to third parties.
Saregama has now alleged that the court’s order was being violated and sought attachment and sale of Ilaiyaraaja’s properties for enforcing the order.
The Delhi High Court has issued notice to Ilaiyaraaja and directed him to respond to the contempt plea.
