Omni bus fares soar fourfold ahead of vinayagar chaturthi holiday

With people living in Chennai preparing to travel to their native places for the Vinayagar Chaturthi holiday, fares charged by omni bus operators have increased sharply on several
routes.
The demand for bus services is high during festival periods as train tickets are booked well in advance and seats often become unavailable within minutes of opening for reservation.
Taking advantage of the increased demand, omni bus operators have been raising fares during festival holidays.
For the return journey to Chennai on Monday, September 14, the maximum fares currently listed include Rs. 2,650 from Madurai, Rs. 2,999 from Coimbatore, Rs. 3,999 from Tirunelveli, Rs. 3,831 from Kanniyakumari, Rs. 3,599 from Nagercoil and Rs. 2,040 from
Erode.The fares could increase further on Sunday and Monday depending on passenger demand, according to the information
provided.
