PMK not to support any party in Madurantakam, Dharapuram bypolls

PMK president Dr Anbumani Ramadoss on Friday said that the party will not extend its support to any political party in the upcoming bypolls for the Madurantakam and Dharapuram Assembly constituencies.
In a statement, he recalled that the party had already taken a decision not to field candidates in the October 6 bypolls for the two reserved constituencies.
He stated that the decision to maintain neutrality was finalised following detailed consultations with PMK state executives and local office-bearers from the respective districts.
Consequently, the party has resolved not to back any contestant or political entity in the upcoming elections, the statement added.
PMK sources said that following consultations with senior state and district-level party functionaries in Chennai, Anbumani confirmed the decision to stay neutral rather than back any ruling or opposition alliance.
The bypolls for Madurantakam and Dharapuram are scheduled for October 6, 2026, witnessing a multi-cornered contest among major state parties – TVK, DMK, AIADMK, CPI(M) and CPI.
The bypolls were necessiated following the resignation of former legislators Maragatham Kumaravel and P Sathyabama, who defected from the AIADMK
days after the Assembly election results were announced in May, and joined the TVK.
In the April 23, 2026 Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly election, the Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK) won four seats.
