A silk saree trader in Sevoor village near Arani in Tiruvannamalai district was surprised when 32 sarees allegedly stolen from his shop were returned to him through a courier.
Kumar, a silk saree trader from Subramania Swamy Temple Street in Sevoor, had recently received six persons, including four women, who arrived in a luxury car bearing a Telangana registration number. They inspected expensive silk sarees and purchased some sarees at a low price before leaving the shop. Two days later, Kumar noticed that several expensive silk sarees were missing from his shop. After checking the CCTV footage, he found that the women who had visited the shop had allegedly stolen the sarees. Kumar subsequently lodged a complaint with the Arani Taluk police. Inspector Sundaresan and Sub-Inspectors Dharma Lingam and Chinnappan registered a case and launched a search for the suspects.
Following reports about the incident on television channels and in newspapers, the suspects allegedly sent the 32 stolen silk sarees to Kumar by courier.
Kumar initially opened the parcel believing that it contained some routine delivery. He was surprised to find the sarees allegedly stolen from his shop inside.
He informed Inspector Sundaresan about the development. Police are investigating the origin of the courier and identifying the person who sent it. The incident has created a stir, with police suspecting that the accused may have returned the sarees fearing arrest.
