Coimbatore Corporation intensified dengue prevention measures at cinema theatres, hotels, marriage halls, community halls, parks and other places where people gather in large numbers.
Joint cleanliness and dengue prevention drives were conducted on Saturday across all five zones and 100 wards, following instructions from Corporation Commissioner Katta Ravi Teja. Health teams removed unwanted waste, identified and cleared stagnant water and inspected containers that could serve as mosquito-breeding sources.
During inspections at theatres in the Central Zone, mosquito larvae were found in a water-filled container at a theatre. The Corporation imposed a fine of ₹50,000 on the establishment.
Similar inspections were conducted at hotels, parks, tank bunds and other public places.
The Corporation also conducted dengue awareness programmes on five streets — Manish Nagar in Nallampalayam, Gurusamy Nagar in Kalveerampalayam, MGR Nagar, Green Field and Hatco Colony — one in each zone. The programmes included screening of awareness short films, fever screening camps, distribution of nilavembu drink and dengue awareness leaflets, and activities for children and residents.
The Corporation said such “Dengue Awareness Street” programmes would be conducted every Saturday in all five zones covering the city’s 6,959 streets.
