DMK candidate Sukanya has expressed confidence of victory in the Dharapuram by-election, claiming that voters were expecting the DMK to return to power.
Polling for the Dharapuram and Madurantakam Assembly by-elections began at 7 a.m. on Tuesday and will continue until 6 p.m.
Votes will be counted and the results declared on October 9.
In Dharapuram, TVK candidate Sathyabama, DMK candidate Sukanya, AIADMK candidate Banumathi, Naam Tamilar Katchi candidate Karthika and Communist Party of India candidate Lakshmanan are contesting.
After casting her vote on Tuesday, Sukanya told reporters that she had reviewed the situation at polling-station level and claimed that people wanted the DMK to win the by-election.
She said people would seek a change if they were disappointed with the government’s performance during its first three months. She also said DMK leaders and functionaries from several districts had campaigned extensively for her.
Sukanya alleged that the TVK government had not achieved anything during its first three months in
office.
She urged voters to compare the DMK government’s achievements during its first 100 days in 2021 with those of the present government.
She claimed that people were hoping for the return of the “Dravidian Model” government and expressed confidence that the DMK would win the Dharapuram constituency.
Sukanya also alleged that TVK candidates were being rejected by voters across the constituency.
