Heavy rains force closure of Kovai Courtallam

The Forest Department has temporarily closed Kovai Courtallam eco-tourism following continuous heavy rains in the Western Ghats.Heavy rainfall has increased the inflow into the Kovai Courtallam waterfall, resulting in a rise in water levels and flooding. Officials have warned that the inflow could increase further.Considering the safety of tourists and the public, the Coimbatore Forest Department has temporarily suspended access to the eco-tourism site from October 7.Officials said the decision was taken as the waterfall is experiencing increased water flow amid continuing heavy rain in the region. The eco-tourism site is expected to be reopened after rainfall subsides and the water flow falls to a safe level.
A decision on reopening will be taken based on the prevailing conditions.
