Coimbatore Police step up Diwali security with foot patrols

West Zone Inspector General of Police (in-charge) and Coimbatore City Police Commissioner Ramya Bharathi, along with Deputy Commissioner of Police (South) Karthikeyan, conducted a foot patrol in key areas of Coimbatore to strengthen police-public relations and ensure public safety ahead of Deepavali.
The patrol covered B1 Town Hall Police Station limits and areas under B4 Ukkadam Police Station, including the Manikoondu area, Eswaran Kovil Street Junction, Big Bazaar Street, Town Hall, Oppanakara Street Junction, R.G. Street Junction and Vaisiyal Street.
During the patrol, the officers met members of the public at the busy Oppanakara Street Junction, listened to their grievances and created awareness about safety measures ahead of the festival.
The officers instructed police personnel to intensify crime-prevention measures and increase daytime patrolling in crowded areas. They also directed officials to install additional CCTV cameras and strengthen surveillance at locations expected to attract large crowds.
The instructions included setting up watchtowers in busy areas and using public-address systems to advise people on safeguarding their belongings while shopping during the festival season.
Police personnel were also told to receive regular briefings during daily station parades on security arrangements and preventive measures to ensure the safety of the public throughout the Deepavali period.
