A 10-month-old girl, Kanishka Sri, died at Coimbatore Government Hospital after receiving intensive treatment for health complications that reportedly developed following vaccination at Vellalore Primary Health Centre. Her parents and relatives have alleged medical negligence and demanded a thorough investigation. Anthony and Saranya, natives of Thoothukudi district, are living and working in Vellalore, Coimbatore. They took their daughter to the primary health centre on October 7 for vaccination. According to the family, a nurse administered the vaccine and provided a tablet to be given if the child developed a fever. When the infant developed a fever on Thursday, her parents gave her the tablet. She later became weak and reportedly fainted on Friday.
The parents rushed her back to the health centre, where she was examined and referred to Coimbatore Government Hospital for further treatment. Despite four days of intensive treatment, the child died on Wednesday morning. The parents alleged that the child’s condition deteriorated after vaccination and a subsequent injection administered when she fainted. They said doctors had informed them of complications involving cardiac function, encephalitis and kidney problems, but claimed they had not received satisfactory explanations about the treatment. The family has urged authorities to investigate the circumstances surrounding the death and establish the exact cause. The allegations have not been independently established, and the cause of death remains to be confirmed.
