The Karl Kübel Institute for Development Education (KKID) will host the three-day international conference “Shaping Fair Migration Together” from October 14 to 16 at its Mangarai campus in Coimbatore, bringing together employers, skilled workers, recruiters, civil society representatives and government stakeholders.
The conference aims to translate the 2022 India-Germany Comprehensive Migration and Mobility Partnership Agreement into practical action, addressing language barriers, migrant integration, family migration costs, loneliness and unreliable recruitment information.
According to the press release, Germany had over 287,000 people of Indian origin, including an estimated 155,000 Indian nationals employed across information technology, healthcare, academia and engineering in 2024. More than 60,000 Indian students are also enrolled in German universities.
Kailash Hariharan Iyer, Executive Director of KKID, said the initiative seeks to build a fairer migration system that benefits all stakeholders while promoting family and child well-being.
The first day will focus on migrant journeys and pre-departure support, the second on ethical recruitment and worker protection, and the third on implementing bilateral commitments through coordinated action.
KKID, which has a 30-year legacy, works with development institutions, private companies, government bodies and non-governmental organisations on training, leadership and social-impact programmes.
