New low-pressure over Bay of Bengal

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast the formation of a new low-pressure area over the southeast and adjoining east-central Bay of Bengal on October 23.
The northeast monsoon commenced over Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Puducherry on October 15, according to the IMD. Since then, several districts, including Chennai, have received moderate to heavy rainfall, with the monsoon intensifying in some areas.
Meanwhile, a deep low-pressure area over the southwest Arabian Sea is expected to move west-northwestwards over the next 12 hours. The system is likely to weaken into a low-pressure area on October 21 and move towards the Somali coast on October 22.
The upcoming weather system is linked to an upper-air cyclonic circulation over the Gulf of Thailand and Myanmar.
This circulation is expected to influence the north Andaman Sea by the morning of October 21, potentially triggering the formation of a low-pressure area over the Bay of Bengal on October 23.
The new system may move west-northwestwards and intensify further, according to the forecast.
Its development and movement will influence subsequent weather conditions across the region.
