The Cauvery Water Management Authority (CWMA) has directed Karnataka to release 3,000 cubic feet of water per second (cusecs) to Tamil Nadu for the next 15 days, following its 60th meeting held in New Delhi on Friday.
The meeting was chaired by CWMA Chairman S. K. Haldar at the authority’s office in the national capital. Officials from Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and other concerned States participated in the discussions. The authority issued the direction based on the recommendation of the Cauvery Water Regulation Committee, which reviewed the ongoing water-sharing arrangements between the two States. Tamil Nadu has maintained that it has not been receiving the full quantity of Cauvery water due to it and has approached the Supreme Court over the
issue.
The CWMA periodically reviews water releases and issues directions to ensure compliance with the Cauvery water-sharing arrangements. The authority’s next meeting has been scheduled for November 6.
