Housing Minister S. Muthusamy inaugurated the Bamboo Awareness and Green Initiative Seminar at the Erode District Collectorate.
The Minister said: A company from Hosur has been producing highly profitable “Bhima Mullilla Bamboo” crop through tissue culture method for the last 25 years and giving it to farmers, Union and State government institutions and abroad.
Now bamboo has been converted into an agricultural crop. Due to this, bamboo is used for cultivation, protection of water bodies and strengthening its banks. Moreover, if Bhima Mullilla Bamboo crop is planted once, it can be harvested repeatedly. Every year, an income of Rs. 1 lakh can be obtained from one acre. Unlike other cash crops, it is not affected by natural disasters. Therefore, it requires less maintenance and earns more income than cash crops like sugarcane and banana, and can grow continuously due to its infertile nature. It can give high yields for more than 100 years. The Growmore Biotech management will provide all the scientific and technological techniques required for Bhima bamboo cultivation free of cost to the farmers selected to cultivate Bhima bamboo.
Earlier, he inspected handicrafts, clothes and computer keyboards made of bamboo and inquired about their uses.
In this meeting, District Collector S. Kandasamy, MP K.E. Prakash, MLA East V.C. Chandrakumar, District Revenue Officer S. Shanthakumar, participated.
